Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani

The film opens in a town that feels almost abandoned, where a statue that can speak becomes the town’s unusual narrator. A reporter steps inside, and the statue begins to relay the story that has shaped everyone there.

Prem Shankar Sharma, [Ranbir Kapoor], is a carefree freeloader who skirts responsibility until a friend’s elopement forces him into the company of a captivating young woman. He meets Jennifer Pinto (Jenny), [Katrina Kaif], and the moment they interact reveals a shared tremor when emotions run high. Jenny’s stammer complicates her first impressions of Prem, leading to a misread where she thinks his stammer is a mockery. Yet as they grow closer, she realizes his stammer is real, and their initial friction softens into a tentative connection. Prem’s feelings for Jenny deepen, but she sees him as a friend rather than a lover, at least for the time being.

Jennifer Pinto (Jenny) confides in Prem that her heart belongs to her college friend Rahul Jalan, [Upen Patel]. Prem, curious and compassionate, meets Rahul and discovers that Rahul’s love for Jenny runs deeper than any familial obligations. Sensing the sincerity, Prem volunteers to help them run toward a future together, a plan that hinges on catching a train to escape their current constraints. The plan is interrupted when Rahul vanishes at the station, and Jenny returns to Prem, pleading for him to help locate Rahul.

Pitambar Jalan, a politician and Rahul’s father, [Govind Namdeo], is openly hostile to the idea of Jenny and Rahul coming together. The religious divide—Jenny being Christian and Rahul Hindu—deepens the rift, and Prem’s presence at Rahul’s house while Jenny’s proposal is discussed earns him a sharp rebuke from Pitambar. In an effort to shield Jenny while her family searches, Prem persuades his mother, Sharda Sharma, to hide Jenny at their home, but the search brings the police. Jenny spins a lie that she and Prem are in love to protect Rahul’s name, and Prem, drawn to her, supports the lie even as he reveals his genuine feelings. Jenny, however, misreads this moment as overacting rather than honesty.

Attempting to cement the relationship, Prem and Jenny slip into a club where Rahul’s birthday party is underway. There, they hope to sway Pitambar toward a kinder view of their bond. Rahul then drops a bombshell—he and Jenny plan to marry in two days. The countdown to the wedding is interrupted when Jenny is kidnapped by Sajid Don, a gangster seeking ransom from Pitambar. Prem and his crew track Jenny to a warehouse, and a chaotic, comic clash erupts between Prem’s gang and Sajid Don’s men. In a pivotal moment, Prem’s father, Shiv Shankar Sharma, [Darshan Jariwala], joins the fray and Sajid Don is eventually arrested.

The media becomes a pawn in the political game as Rahul and Pitambar try to polish Pitambar’s image before elections, claiming credit for the dramatic rescue. On the day of the wedding, Jenny realizes Prem’s consent to their publicized “love story” was part of a larger plan to secure Rahul’s future, not a betrayal. Reassessing Prem’s selfless care for her, she understands that her love for Prem runs deeper than any political convenience, and she decides to run away with him instead.

As Prem contemplates leaving town, a mysterious figure appears—a man in the guise of Jesus—asking for directions. This unusual encounter leads him back toward the church, where the actor vanishes, and the revelatory moment lands: Jesus Christ, in human form, has stepped in to unite Prem and Jenny in answer to her prayers spoken within the church walls. The couple finally chooses each other, marrying in a quiet ceremony at a marriage registration office, surrounded by the people who have shaped their lives.

The statue’s opening narration comes full circle as the town gathers for the wedding, its doors open and the reporter invited to witness the registration office celebration. The tale ends on a note of communal joy, with the town itself seemingly present to witness a union born from persistence, misreads, faith, and a little divine timing.
