Portia Nathan is a straight-laced Princeton University Admissions Officer whose career centers on guiding, consoling, and sometimes challenging applicants through the demanding admissions maze. Her world evolves when she visits the Quest School, an alternative high school run by her former college classmate, the free-wheeling John Pressman. Pressman teaches and cares for his pre-teen adopted son, Nelson, but his unorthodox approach to life and learning quickly exposes Portia to a far more candid portrait of student ambition than she’s used to.
