The film loosely follows grizzled Gustav, captain of a massive floating ‘snailboat’, and his eclectic crew of talking animals and lumbering sailors in blackface. It unfolds like a twisted children’s picture book—simultaneously cute, grotesquely obscene, and absurd—shattering conventional narrative in favor of an episodic, free‑associative flow that a critic described as “cinematic memory association.”
