Lebanese director Randa Chahal Sabbag offers a bleak war drama exposing the absurd brutality of Beirut’s 1980s urban fighting. It opens with kittens blown apart and then follows naïve country girl Bernadette (Nada Ghosn), hired as a maid in an abandoned mansion. She befriends veteran cleaner Therese (Renee Dick) and, at a cemetery, meets a rakish Arab militiaman, falling in love amid the chaos.
