Visually striking, erotically charged and emotionally intense, the film serves as an indictment of communism. It follows five young Red Army recruits who confront merciless violence each day, fighting to preserve their dignity by clinging to the humanity and compassion they share with one another. Their bond becomes a beacon of hope in the bleakness.
