A woman and her seven children live on a farm in southern France, working hard. The farm’s owner—an egotistical man who is also the woman’s lover and the children’s father—dominates their lives. He treats them as property, forces cheap labor, and forbids them to leave. Only the mother’s fierce love keeps the family together as hope fades.
