Lieutenant Mario Ludovici, an army officer, is sent to a Libyan outpost after his romance with Cristiana ends. Captain Santelia, the commander, calls him a weakling, but a campaign against a rebel tribe proves Ludovici’s bravery. When Santelia is wounded, Ludovici assumes command. Cristiana returns, urging him back to Rome, but he stays in Africa.
