When I Met You In Tokyo

Azon and her friends attend a bar party in Tokyo where Joey, who works on a rural farm, admonishes them for being rowdy. A drunk Azon lashes out and punches him in the face, and her friends drag her away. This fiery first encounter plants the seeds for a complicated, later connection.

Days later, Azon buys vegetables from Joey and recognizes him from the bar. They acknowledge each other, and a cautious warmth begins to emerge from their tense first meeting. Their conversation hints at a growing curiosity between them.

After several further encounters, they forgive their initial misunderstandings and begin dating, often with their friends nearby. Their budding romance unfolds across their different lives, alternating between city and countryside settings. The tension from their first meeting fades as trust grows.

Azon learns that her brother Marlon is a gambling addict after his daughter Hannah secretly tells her remittances were squandered. Deciding to stop sending money, Azon creates distance between them. Marlon lashes out, slapping Hannah and accusing her of betrayal. After visiting their parents' graves, he apologizes and promises to change.

Hannah relocates to the Philippines and becomes close friends with Joey's grandson Jomar. Their bond grows amid family life and the wider network connecting the two families.

Joey remains close to his daughter Charlene but has a strained relationship with his ex-wife Susan. With Akira's advice about forgiveness, Joey forgives Susan and moves on from past mistakes.

Azon and Joey marry and move into Joey's home, but on their honeymoon they discover they cannot consummate their love due to their age. The revelation reshapes their expectations as they begin their life together.

Their marriage lasts six years during which Azon develops osteoarthritis in her leg and Joey secretly suffers from heart problems known only to Charlene. When Azon learns of the secret, she feels anger but ultimately forgives him and vows to make the most of their time together.

After a walk in the snowy mountains, Azon and Joey rest at home. When Azon goes to fetch water, Joey collapses from a heart attack and tells her he loves her before dying, leaving Azon and Akira devastated.

Akira and Azon are devastated; Azon informs Charlene, who is also deeply saddened by the loss. The family begins to grieve and adjust to life without Joey.

Azon reflects on the lessons Joey taught her—gardening, farming, and how to cut a bonsai tree—emphasizing patience. The film ends with Azon narrating about finding one's soulmate and how they are meant to be together.
