Meteorologists track a cold front moving from Alaska to California’s groves, issuing multi‑day forecasts that give growers—like the Morgan family—time to set up oil‑burning heaters. As temperatures dip below freezing, the Morgans light the pots; dwindling fuel and smoky air slow traffic while forecasters predict how long the freeze will last.
