Haunted by shame and isolation, a young villager with tuberculosis is barred from World II military service. Scorned by his neighbors, he descends into despair and launches a violent killing spree, questioning the cruelty of labeling him a devil. The story examines his turmoil and the community’s harsh judgment in a grim wartime rural setting.
