Set at the foot of Yellow Mountain—sheltering the village from winter’s offshore winds—and wedged between the Man and Eido rivers that fed its fields, Vilarinho das Furnas was abandoned and flooded in 1969. The film memorializes the community’s final year, capturing residents’ lives before the cold, clear waters that sustained them ultimately submerged the town.
