Two neighboring linen‑fabric retailers, Umberto and Jewish dealer Leone, vie for customers as Leone undercuts prices. Their rivalry sharpens until Fascism imposes anti‑Semitic laws that cripple Leone’s shop, which Umberto deems unjust. Confronted with the regime, they set aside competition and form a lasting friendship.
