Rosemary Brown, an English novice nun, is mistaken for a fifth columnist by French soldiers and faces a firing squad. The Germans arrive and relocate her to a grand hotel in Marneville that has been turned into an internment camp. She is transported there in the back of a lorry with journalist Freda, stripper Bridie, and Muriel and Miss Meredith.
