Duclos’s son, a seasoned gangster, is framed for a crime he didn’t commit. The only proof of his innocence is owned by the Marquis de Chemantel de Beauvoiron, who demands $10 million to release it. Duclos obtains a $10 million life‑insurance policy on the marquis’s son, finds a homeless look‑alike of the marquis in Rome, brings him to Paris and stages an accidental death to secure the document.
