A melodramatic tale follows an innocent country girl (Ita Rina) who turns to prostitution in the city and, in her final encounter, serves a condemned murderer (Josef Rovenský). Shunned by society, she sinks into despair. Directed by Karel Anton, the 1930 film was the first Czech feature with a post‑synchronised soundtrack, recorded in France, blending silent‑film aesthetics with sound and adapting Egon Erwin Kisch’s short story with an international cast.
