What Happens in Tom Tom Tomcat: Full Plot Summary

The whole story of Tom Tom Tomcat (1953) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

In the Wild West, Granny and Tweety ride a dusty desert road in their wagon, singing Oh! Susanna, when they’re suddenly ambushed by a large group of "puddy tats" posing as Indigenous peoples of the Americas—many of whom resemble Sylvester. They scramble for shelter and flee to a deserted fort, where Granny wastes no time, taking aim and firing, while Tweety keeps score with tally marks and hums Ten Little Indians. The scene is chaotic and comic as the attackers fall one after another, and the rhythm of the chase is punctuated by the song that Tweety quietly tracks. The tenth assailant nearly snatches Tweety away, but Granny acts just in time to protect him.

More schemes unfold, including an archer and a battering ram, all of which backfire in slapstick fashion. Another archer nearly drags Tweety out again, exclaiming, > Granny! Help! A Mohican got me! <, only to be foiled by Granny with a clever counterstrike. The onslaught continues, with each trap—whether archer, ram, or other device—ending in a burst of failure rather than triumph. The tension spikes when Chief "Rain-In-The-P-P-Puss" orders the real Sylvester to slip into the fort, but he reappears with the top of his head scalped by Granny, who snaps, > Ya got any more bright ideas? <

Undeterred, Granny and Tweety disguise themselves as fellow Native Americans and lure the cats into a powder house, turning the fort’s own weapons against them. When one of the intruders, Geronimo, asks for a match, the pair obliges, and the powder house explodes in a dramatic, skyward eruption that sends felines arcing into the air before they tumble back down. Throughout, Tweety, perched with an umbrella in hand, comments on the surreal mayhem around him, culminating in a final, memorable beat of comic triumph:

> Oh my goodness, it's raining puddy tats! <

Tom Tom Tomcat Plot Explained: Your Questions Answered

The questions people ask most about Tom Tom Tomcat (1953): what happens in the confusing scenes, why the characters do what they do, the twists, hidden details and what the ending means. Each answer contains spoilers.

Q1

Why are the cat characters dressed as Indigenous people?

The puddy tats are disguised as Indigenous peoples as part of the cartoon's Wild West setting and to create a large group of identical Sylvester-type enemies. This was a common cartoon trope in the 1950s that has since become dated and controversial, but in the context of the cartoon, it serves to create the absurd visual of countless Sylvester clones attacking Granny and Tweety.

Q2

What is Tweety counting with tally marks while Granny shoots?

Tweety keeps tally marks to track how many puddy tats Granny has successfully defeated during the siege. As each attacker falls, Tweety increments his count, adding to the comedic rhythm of the scene while he hums 'Ten Little Indians' in the background.

Q3

How does Granny defend the fort against the cat attacks?

Granny uses a variety of weapons and countermeasures to defend the deserted fort. Q4

What happens when Sylvester tries to infiltrate the fort?

Chief Rain-In-The-P-P-Puss orders the real Sylvester to sneak into the fort, but Granny catches him and 'scalps' him, removing only the top of his fur rather than actual hair. Granny then asks mockingly, 'Ya got any more bright ideas?' as Sylvester groans in defeat.

Q5

How do Granny and Tweety trick the cats into the powder house?

Q6

What triggers the powder house explosion?

Q7

What does Tweety mean when he says 'it's raining puddy tats'?

After the powder house explodes and blasts all the cats upward into the sky, they come falling back down like rain. Holding an umbrella, Tweety delivers the punny punchline 'Oh my goodness, it's raining puddy tats!', a play on the phrase 'raining cats and dogs' that concludes the cartoon on a comedic note.

Foreshadowing: The explosion sends cats flying skyward just before Tweety makes his observation.
