In a stark Portuguese village, a married couple has taken a vow of celibacy, while a gang of gypsies terrorizes the community. The action‑drama explores their uneasy interaction and the persistence of ancient Catholic rituals, as villagers—devout believers—support the swindling gypsies by purchasing religious relics.
