Stan, a salesman named Jimmy Smith, tries to sell his Napoleon book to an uninterested passerby at iron gates. When an elderly gentleman arrives, Stan uses sign language to persuade him to leave together. Seeing a sign for a Deaf & Dumb Institute, he signs to a lady exiting, only to be verbally rebuked for assuming she is deaf.
