Set in 1926 Paris, Nick Hart is a struggling American painter in the expatriate art scene. He drinks in cafés and pressures gallery owner Libby Valentin to exhibit his work. When patroness Nathalie de Ville asks him to forge three paintings, he runs into rubber magnate Bertram Stone, married to Nick’s ex‑wife Rachel, leading to dangerous confrontations.
