Martta and Otto, itinerant tailors in rural Finland, claim dubious Romanov ancestry. They travel with their two dim‑witted adult sons, Hippo and Repe, and goofy son‑in‑law Ventti, resorting to petty crime when work dries up. As Otto wanes, Martta leads the clan, and the brothers grow increasingly violent. Their fortunes shift after they abduct a mute man named Kaspar, who becomes their sidekick and catches the eye of Martta’s youngest daughter, Lara. Tensions rise when long‑lost half‑brother Laszlo returns, seeking to wrest control of the family.
