During Manila’s 1945 battle, Japanese troops seal themselves inside Intramuros, the Spanish walled city, holding thousands of Filipinos captive while U.S. artillery bombards the fortress. Correspondent Murray arrives as Lieutenant Sorenson’s guerrilla unit meets Nardo, a Filipino escapee who suggests using the sewer tunnel to free the prisoners.
