Set in a boys’ college in eastern Quebec during the late 1940s, the story follows Brother Jean, a teacher who uses unconventional methods to engage his students. Hoping to spark their interest, he leads archaeological excavations aimed at proving the existence of a Viking colony, Vinland, along the Saint Lawrence coast. His unorthodox approach clashes with the superiors of his religious order, while he unknowingly impacts the lives of his students, especially Émile, a struggling young man contemplating leaving school for factory work.
