In the film’s closing moments Lilia’s long‑run battle with history finally catches up with her. After a home invasion leaves her gravely wounded, the police—still haunted by Officer Angua’s decades‑old hunt for the undying creature that has stalked Lilia—raid her house. By the time they break in, Lilia has already slipped away, her life ending not with a grand sacrifice but with quiet resignation. The only trace she leaves behind is the strange necklace that has long been Matias’ talisman.
The sunrise that follows is not a sign of hope for the immortal. Matias, the centuries‑old warrior turned vampire‑cat who has refused Lilia’s offer of eternal life, steps into the daylight and lets the sun finish what his endless nights could not: he ends his own existence. The camera lingers on the discarded necklace, now held by Angua as proof that the legend was real, while the police file closes on the case that has defined his career.
