Henry Kesdi, a once‑renowned composer whose voice was silenced by surviving the Holocaust, lives in retirement. Inspired musicologist Stefan persuades him to return and write a demanding symphony on Kesdi’s long‑neglected piano. To aid the work, Kesdi hires a young musical secretary, whose close relationship with the composer creates tension, as his devoted wife reluctantly tolerates the affair.
