A brief silent‑mime rendition of Thomas Mann’s tale follows a Parisian street urchin who survives by peddling severed human heads. The film vanished for almost five decades until, in 2006, the son of Ruth Michelly and Saul Gilbert uncovered a copy in his mother’s Munich attic, rescuing the lost work.
