Based on Clarín’s novel, the film follows Ana Ozores, a young wife of a retired regent in the decaying provincial town of Vetusta (inspired by Oviedo). Surrounded by hypocrisy and religiosity, she is sexually frustrated and haunted by erotic dreams. Her confessions spark an obsession in her priest; libertine Álvaro Mesía tries to seduce her.
