Ranger Michailytsch finds an orphaned lynx in a Siberian reserve after its mother is killed by a bear. He brings the cub to his log cabin, names it Kunak (“friend”), and the animal adapts to human life. As an adult the lynx attacks a rooster, is released, then caught in a poacher’s trap. Michailytsch rescues it, but thieves sell the lynx to a city circus.
