Muriel, a painfully shy woman who masks her loneliness with bluster, has spent her life as an unattached “old maid.” While vacationing at a seaside hotel, she meets Gabriel, whose car breaks down and forces him to stay for several days. Though stiff at first, their shared meals spark a tentative friendship that quietly hints at romance.
