A director begins a film‑within‑a‑film about an elderly ex‑KGB activist who, in summer 1941, tortured and murdered Latvians in a parish‑house cellar. Though the cellar is bricked up, the victims’ spirits keep returning. Unaware, the crew films while the real KGB man—now a drunk—roams the set. A rivalry for the lead actress erupts between the director and the star, and the producer demands reshoots.
