German troops arrive during winter, finding a village inhabited only by women. The women, led by mothers Shano and Mara, resist the Germans while sheltering wounded partisans who later retreat deeper into the forest, their tracks covered by snow. Under the guise of gathering firewood, the women secretly deliver bread and supplies to the fighters.
