The Lady Vanishes

Iris Henderson boards a train after an enchanting trip in the mystical land of Bandrika, preparing to return home for her wedding. The train chugs along while she reflects on her recent adventures, unaware of the unexpected events awaiting her.

A sudden avalanche blocks the railway line, stranding the train's passengers at a quaint hotel. The unexpected halt brings together an eclectic mix of characters, including two cricket fanatics and a mysterious governess.

As night falls, Iris is disturbed by loud clarinet playing from the room above hers. It is Gilbert Redman, an ethnomusicologist, whose music captivates local dancers and ignites a confrontation with Iris, leaving her feeling uneasy.

The next morning, Iris sustains a head injury when a planter falls on her at the railway station. Miraculously, Miss Froy helps her board the train, joining several other passengers with their own hidden agendas.

After a calming cup of tea, Iris returns to find that Miss Froy has mysteriously vanished from their compartment. To Iris’s dismay, other passengers, including Eric Todhunter, deny any knowledge of Froy's whereabouts.

In a desperate attempt to solve the mystery, Iris enlists Gilbert's help to locate Miss Froy. Dr. Hartz suggests Iris's head injury may be affecting her perceptions, complicating the search further.

Todhunter's mistress reveals she spotted a shadowy figure resembling Miss Froy. Meanwhile, Iris and Gilbert uncover clues about the passengers' true identities and intentions, intensifying their quest.

Madame Kummer, bearing a striking resemblance to Miss Froy, claims she assisted Iris after her injury. This complicates the already convoluted mystery, causing more doubts and fears among the passengers.

In a dramatic twist, Dr. Hartz admits that the passengers have been drugged as part of a conspiracy. This revelation propels Iris and Gilbert into action as they devise a plan to rescue Miss Froy.

As the train approaches the border, Dr. Hartz uncovers Iris and Gilbert’s rescue plan and re-routes the train. A fight breaks out between passengers and soldiers when they are confronted by armed forces.

During the gunfight, Charters is injured, and Iris and Gilbert take control of the situation. They manage to overpower a soldier, showcasing their bravery amid the chaos brought on by the railroad hijacking.

After the gunfire, Miss Froy reveals herself as a spy and hands Iris and Gilbert an encoded message. This important mission now hinges on their ability to deliver the message to the Foreign Office.

Once they arrive in London, Charters and Caldicott learn that the much-anticipated Test Match has been canceled. Iris, feeling distanced from her fiancé, shares an unexpected first kiss with Gilbert, altering their relationship forever.

At the Foreign Office, Gilbert struggles to recall the important melody. Just as their nervous tension peaks, the sound of Miss Froy playing the enchanting tune on a grand piano fills the air, signaling her triumphant return.
