The Good Dinosaur

In a fascinating alternate history, an asteroid that could have caused the extinction of dinosaurs safely passes by Earth. This event allows these majestic creatures to continue thriving on the planet.

We meet Arlo, an Apatosaurus, living with his family which includes his siblings Libby and Buck, and his parents Henry and Ida. While his confident siblings easily succeed, Arlo finds even simple tasks to be a significant challenge due to his timid nature.

In an effort to instill responsibility, Henry assigns Arlo the important task of guarding the corn silo. Together, they set a trap to capture any intruders, signifying a pivotal moment in Arlo's journey toward maturity.

The family captures a feral caveboy, but Arlo is unable to bring himself to kill the creature. This decision leads to his father’s disappointment and sets off a chain of events that profoundly affects Arlo's life.

Henry takes Arlo on a journey into a ravine to track the escaped caveboy, but tragedy strikes when a flash flood threatens their lives. In a heroic act, Henry sacrifices himself to save Arlo, leaving him forever changed.

With his father gone, Arlo is left with greater responsibilities and grapples with his overwhelming grief. In his anger towards the caveboy, he chases after him, unaware that this pursuit will lead to his own transformation.

After being swept away in the river, Arlo loses consciousness and awakens trapped under a rock in the wilderness. This moment marks the beginning of his arduous journey of self-discovery and survival.

The following day, Arlo encounters the caveboy, whom he names Spot, as he digs to free him. Spot showcases his bravery by defending Arlo from a snake, solidifying their bond as they search for food and companionship in the wild.

Arlo and Spot's journey takes a dangerous turn when they cross paths with a pack of carnivorous pterodactyls. They manage to escape after a thrilling chase that tests their courage and friendship.

After escaping the pterodactyls, Arlo and Spot join forces with a pack of Tyrannosaurs led by Butch. Together, they devise a clever plan to reclaim Butch's longhorn herd from Velociraptor cattle rustlers, showcasing teamwork and bravery.

As night falls, the group gathers around a campfire, sharing stories and fostering camaraderie. Arlo begins to feel a sense of belonging and purpose as he drives the cattle south, moving closer to home and healing from his loss.

On their journey, Arlo and Spot come across a feral caveman family. Although Spot is tempted to join them, Arlo encourages him to stay focused on their mission to return home, deepening their friendship.

The threat of storms leads to danger once again, as the pterodactyls capture Spot. Arlo is pushed into a desperate situation where he confronts his feelings and determination to rescue his friend from peril.

With newfound resolve, Arlo faces the pterodactyls to save Spot, showcasing bravery that he previously thought he lacked. After a fierce battle, they both fall down a waterfall, but Arlo protects Spot during their wild descent.

Finally returning to Arlo's home, they encounter the caveman family eager to claim Spot. Understanding their need for family, Arlo bids a heartfelt farewell to Spot, fully embracing the value of friendship as he leaves his mark on the silo.
