Christian Frei’s documentary chronicles the tragic fate of Afghanistan’s giant Buddhas of the Bamiyan Valley, towering for 1,500 years before the Taliban ordered the destruction of all non‑Islamic statues in 2001. Despite worldwide protests they were demolished. By weaving historical footage with contemporary reflections, the film examines the cultural loss and the broader impact of religious extremism.
