In 1988 Figaro magazine invited several renowned directors to create short films honoring the magazine’s ten‑year anniversary, timed for the bicentenary of the French Revolution. The anthology includes Werner Herzog’s “Les Gaulois,” David Lynch’s “The Cowboy and the Frenchman,” Andrzej Wajda’s “Proust contre la déchéance,” Luigi Comencini’s “Pèlerinage à Agen,” and Jean‑Luc Godard’s “Le dernier mot.”
