Kiyohime, daughter of Tokugawa Ienari, marries Tadateru Ogura, a Kyushu lord, but their marriage is strained by his sexual inexperience and her strict morals. He takes Sandra, a French captive of smuggler Hatakaya, as a mistress. Insulted, Kiyohime’s attendants imprison Sandra, who escapes with help from Morita, Ogura’s retainer. In retaliation, the lord bans sexual activity among his subjects.
