A village verger, who habitually dresses in priestly robes, is invited by a resident to take over as pastor of an empty parish. An atheist schoolteacher, resentful of the newcomer, plots to humiliate him, even arranging a scandal by being caught with the local girl, Majka, heightening the conflict between faith and skepticism.
