When John Mason discovers his father has been killed, he is left wounded and grieving. He becomes attracted to his nurse, Alice, which sparks a rivalry with his friend Ben, who intends to marry her. Later, John tracks down his father's murderer and prepares to confront him, unaware that Ben has emptied the bullets from his gun.
