Alfred Puc, a meek Paris tax collector, learns his aunt died in a moving van. Driver hides her body in a cupboard to avoid police, then the van is stolen. Since inheritance demands a corpse, Alfred races to recover missing van and cupboard, pulls him into criminal underworld where he finds a murdered gangster in his room and loses cupboard again.
