The dean of Medfield College sees an opportunity to capitalize on Dexter’s extraordinary brainpower: he places him on the school's quiz bowl team and invites him to recruit his friends as teammates. Under Dexter’s guidance, the Medfield team cruises through a series of quiz bowl matches, with Dexter primarily supplying the answers and delivering near-perfect performances.
Dexter’s rapid success brings national attention and positive publicity to Medfield College, a glow that feels almost too bright for the school. Yet this triumph also begins to sow tension among his friends, who worry that Dexter’s ego might start to eclipse the camaraderie that once defined them.
