Alcoholic newspaperman Steve Bramley boards the cruise ship San Capador hoping the trip will help him quit drinking and begin a book. He is joined by his friend Schulte, a private detective intent on catching criminal Danny Checkett, who seeks stolen bonds. As the voyage proceeds, Steve resumes drinking while observing the other passengers, many of whom are not who they appear to be.
