In 1959 England, a spirited widow named Florence Green pursues her dream of opening a bookshop in a traditional seaside town. Her venture challenges the community's conservative values, introducing them to the works of authors like Ray Bradbury and Vladimir Nabokov. Facing resistance from a formidable local resident, Florence finds an unlikely ally in a quiet widower. She must then navigate the complexities of community and determine if there's a place for a sanctuary of literature in a town resistant to change.
