The Band Concert

The Mickey Mouse band is performing in a park and is applauded for their Zampa performance. They begin Gioacchino Rossini's William Tell overture, kicking off the main concert with an upbeat energy. The scene establishes a festive, distraction-rich setting for the rest of the sequence.

Peter Pig’s vibrato trumpet and Paddy Pig’s tuba cut into the performance with Prelude: Dawn from the William Tell overture. Their intruding sounds mingle with the band’s music, creating a comic cacophony. The musicians and audience alike react with amused frustration.

Donald Duck rolls a vendor cart through the audience, selling popcorn, lemonade, peanuts, and ice cream. The moving cart adds noise and movement that distracts both players and listeners. The park atmosphere becomes even more chaotic as snacks fly and crowds react.

During the Finale, Donald unexpectedly plays Turkey in the Straw on a flute at the same tempo as the band. The other musicians try to stay synchronized despite the intrusion. The crowd and Mickey persevere, determined to see the piece through.

Mickey halts the moment and splits Donald’s flute in half. Donald scrambles to replace it with another flute from his supply. The music keeps tempo as the joke escalates.

They attempt to resume the tune, and Donald pulls out a second flute to keep up. Mickey watches, ready to intervene if Donald won’t stay on tempo. The band edges forward, still in pursuit of a clean performance.

Donald pulls out a third flute and tries to keep Turkey in the Straw going. Before Mickey can intervene again, Donald breaks the flute himself. The disruption escalates as the audience erupts with laughter.

An angry trombonist grabs Donald by the neck, shakes out several flutes, and forces him off the stage. He knocks Donald backward into the vendor cart, scattering instruments and snacks. The remaining band members attempt to resume playing despite the chaos.

A bee appears and begins to harass Donald, buzzing around him and landing on Mickey’s hat. The distraction returns as another comic obstacle for the performers. The bee becomes a recurring nuisance through the sequence.

Donald hurls ice cream at the bee, but it ends up entering Peter Pig’s trumpet. Peter Pig shoots the ice cream out, accidentally striking Mickey with the blast. The moment intensifies the slapstick chaos.

The ice cream ricochet causes Mickey to be peppered with the mishap and the band briefly transitions to The Streets of Cairo. The piece falls apart as the ice cream distraction breaks the focus, and Mickey kicks the stray rhythm away. The comic interruption adds another layer to the performance’s chaos.

Mickey has the band play Ranz des Vaches and swats at the bee, causing the notes to drift into odd patterns. The bee persists, and the ensemble struggles to maintain even timing amid the distraction. The humorous chaos continues to unfold on stage.

Horace Horsecollar tries to kill the bee with cymbals and a hammer, but accidentally bonks Goofy on the head. Goofy then continues playing his clarinet from inside Horace’s jacket, eliciting a mix of laughter and embarrassment. Horace exits the scene in shame.

The Storm segment summons a tornado that drags benches and audience hats into the wind, sending everyone scrambling. Donald tries to seek shelter in the trees, but the wind knots them together in a comic tangle. The band keeps playing from inside the spinning chaos, unfazed by the destruction.

The tornado tears through the pavilion and the band continues performing from within the cyclone as the storm reverses. Only Donald remains watching and clapping as the others regroup. The encore of Turkey in the Straw ends with the band throwing their instruments at Donald, a tuba trapping him, and his hands emerging from the blowpiece to deliver a final flutter of notes.
