Set in Germany just after reunification, a social worker tasked with escorting a Polish family to an immigration camp in the provincial town of Rassau is kidnapped along with the family. Chief Inspector Koern and his girlfriend investigate, uncovering a world of blind hatred toward immigrants, twisted sexuality, misplaced lust and an overwhelming, irrational devotion to the German nation that permeates everyday society. Their search reveals how racism sprouts not from uniforms and shaved heads but from the very fabric of the community itself.
