The director dedicated this lyrical epic to his physician father. An ambulance doctor risks experiments to forge a vital vaccine, backed by his wife, doubted by his daughter. His unlike son protects him, yet scientific self‑denial exacts a heavy price. Discovery looms, twenty years of work crumble, pulling him closer to his son; filmed 1985‑1992.
