Teg lives with her father's older brother, Taya, and her aunt Taayi. Her mother died when Teg was young, and her father, who served in the army, is considered lost. Teg clings to the hope that her Phauji is alive and will return someday.

Jeet is carefree but weighed down by his father's debt, which drove him to despair after his suicide. Teg comes to the village to pick cotton and meets Jeet, who falls in love with her at first sight. She encourages him to study and become something to pay off the debts.

Teg returns to Jeet's village after about 13 months and learns that he has moved on to a hostel for higher studies, now in college, with a friend named Tasveer. She feels happy that he has listened to her advice. The two later plan to reconnect in secret.

A couple of months after the wedding, Jeet returns because he is now in the army. He comes back to the village, beginning a new chapter balancing duty with family life.
