Teg, Tania, lives with her father’s older brother, Taya, and Taayi, Seema Kaushal. Her mother was a Muslim and died when Teg was young. Her father was in the army, and the family says he is lost, but Teg believes Phauji is alive and will return home one day.

Jeet, [Ammy Virk], is a carefree and irresponsible boy whose father committed suicide because he couldn’t pay off his debt. He meets Teg when she comes to pick cotton in the village, and a spark of affection grows between them. Teg encourages Jeet to study, so he can improve his life and help pay off his father’s debts. After about thirteen months, Teg returns to Jeet’s village and finds that Jeet has moved on to a hostel for higher studies and is now in college. There, he has a female friend, Tasveer, [Jasmin Bajwa], who is genuinely happy that he listened to her.

The two begin meeting secretly. Later that year, Teg tells Jeet that she cannot meet anymore because she is engaged, and she gives him her mother’s jewelry to help cover the costs of job applications. Jeet tells Kulwinder, who is marrying Teg, that Teg has a bad character to scare him off, but he later confesses that he loves her. Teg’s fiancé says that he would help them, yet instead he tells Teg’s Taayi that she has been secretly meeting with Jeet. Teg is about to get married, but she runs away to a house she once worked at, hides there, and waits for Jeet to come.

Jeet arrives and finds her unconscious. They return to her Taayi’s house, and she tells her uncle that they raised her, so they have the right to wed her to anyone. Teg confesses that her Taayi may have treated her badly, but he gave her food and a roof to live under. She tells her aunt that she has found her Phauji and that her father was in the army all this time. She also requests that her Taayi marry her off to Jeet. Her Taayi realizes his mistakes, and they arrange for her marriage to Jeet. A couple of months later, Jeet returns since he is now in the army.
