A convict is released from prison after serving 28 years. Shortly after stepping out, he is stabbed by an unknown assailant at the gates, shocking the police who note the convict never spoke to visitors or enemies inside the facility. The mystery begins with a fatal, unexplained act that hints at a buried grudge spanning decades.

Two decades earlier, in Subramaniapuram, Azhagar, Paraman, Kasi, Dopa, and Dumka are unemployed and idle, spending days drinking and fooling around on the streets opposite ex-councillor Somu and his brother Kanugu. Their constant brawls draw police attention, but Somu and Kanugu bail them out each time, keeping them close to local power. The group's rhythm of mischief sets the stage for the violence to come.

Among the gang, Azhagu and Thulasi develop mutual feelings, adding a personal stake to the crew's dynamics. Paraman disapproves of his friend's romance, creating tension within the group. The romance introduces a fragile loyalty that will be tested by future violence.

Somu fails to win the district chief post, and his wife mocks his joblessness, fueling his ego and anger. Kanugu uses the moment to push the friends toward a drastic plan that could alter their fortunes. The seeds of a murder plot are sown in this political grievance.

Azhagu, Paraman, and Kasi hatch a plan to murder the person chosen for the district chief post. They execute the killing with unsettling efficiency and then flee the scene, leaving behind a bicycle that becomes crucial evidence for the investigators. The act marks a clear departure from their earlier mischief into calculated violence.

Investigators, aided by the bicycle left at the crime scene, identify Paraman and Azhagu as the killers. They surrender to the court, hoping Kanugu will bail them out. To their shock, they learn that Somu has already been selected for the district post and is avoiding contact with them.

While in jail, they befriend a fellow inmate who helps secure their release. This ally’s loyalty alters their fortunes and foreshadows the brutal cycle of favors and violence that will follow. The escape frees them to pursue revenge and power.

The ally who bailed them later asks for a favor in return: to kill his brother-in-law who murdered his sister. The five friends accept the grim assignment, crossing a line as they carry out another killing to repay the debt. This act deepens their entanglement in a web of revenge.

Meanwhile, Thulasi continues to meet Azhagar, while Kanugu’s henchmen attempt to kill him but fail. In response, the friends strike back and kill Kanugu’s men later in the same day, escalating the feud and consolidating their power. The violence becomes a routine part of life in Subramaniapuram.

A few days later, the group injures Thulasi's uncle to provoke Kanugu. Kanugu then sets a trap for Azhagar, using Thulasi as bait, and kills him with the help of his henchmen. The trap exposes how far the cycle of violence has spread through their lives.

Paraman retaliates by decapitating Kanugu and placing the head at his friend’s murder site. He calls Kasi to recount the deed, revealing how he killed Kanugu. The act of vengeance underscores the heavy price they pay for their actions.

Kasi betrays Paraman, leaving him at the mercy of Somu’s henchmen. Paraman is killed in the ensuing pursuit, and Kasi escapes, maintaining the precarious control the group has built through violence. The betrayal seals the fate of Paraman in the local power struggle.

In the present, Kasi lies in critical condition in a hospital after a stabbing outside the prison walls. A policeman interrogates him as the doctor orders rest. Dumka arrives and reveals that Dopa was the actual stabber, then proceeds to kill Kasi by removing his air supply, reminding him of his betrayal.
