In the fall of 1985, Stevo lives a chaotic life as a punk in Salt Lake City, Utah. Alongside his friend 'Heroin' Bob, he delves into the vibrant punk scene, constantly attending parties and facing off against rival subcultures, particularly rednecks.

Stevo shares a close bond with 'Heroin' Bob, who ironically fears needles and considers most drugs dangerous. Their friendship is marked by reckless adventures and a mutual disdain for societal norms, as they navigate a world filled with altercations and camaraderie.

Stevo maintains a casual relationship with Sandy, while Bob secretly pines for Trish, the head shop owner. These romantic entanglements provide both comfort and complications amidst their tumultuous lifestyle.

Stevo grapples with the contrasting life choices of his divorced parents, who were once proud hippies but have transformed into wealthy Reagan Republicans. This shift deeply disillusions him, impacting his views on authority and success.
