Joe Tyler, known for his habitual lateness, faces dire consequences when he misses the critical deadline to deliver a summons to Mafia kingpin Fat Charlie. His boss, Ray, is furious, and this incident puts Joe's job at significant risk.

Following Joe's failure, Ray seizes the opportunity to belittle him while praising Joe's competitor, Tony. Joe's competency as a process server is further undermined, creating tension within his workplace.

Despite his troubles, Joe receives one last chance from Ray. He is tasked with serving divorce papers to Sara Moore, a glamorous socialite vacationing in upstate New York while her husband is in Texas.
