Avinash Verma, Farooq Shaikh, is an idealistic M.A. student whose socialist beliefs and strict principles set him apart in a world that looks increasingly toward material success. He remains almost untouched by the era’s materialism and refuses to accumulate more wealth than is necessary. Although he is the son of a wealthy landowner, philosophical disagreements drive him to move out of his father’s house, choosing independence and a life shaped by conviction rather than convention. He earns a living as a freelance writer, shaping ideas with careful words and a steady voice, a path that suits his careful, principled nature.
Geetanjali Gupta 'Geeta', Deepti Naval, the daughter of a textile mill owner, is captivated by Avinash’s worldview. Her attraction grows into love, and she too breaks away from her family’s expectations to stand by him. The couple marries and soon finds themselves expecting a child, a hopeful turn that binds their shared ideals to a growing family. Geeta brings a practical sense to their life, taking up a teaching job at a local school while also offering private tuition to make ends meet, demonstrating her own commitment to education and bettering their future.
Avinash’s day-to-day life becomes increasingly demanding as his night shift keeps him away from Geeta, creating a strain that tests their bond. To help shoulder the financial burden and ensure some stability, Avinash takes a job at a publishing company owned by his classmate Satish Shah, Satish Shah. The move marks a turning point: the very world he once loathed—the calculated, strategic pursuit of money and influence—begins to pull him toward a mode of operation he had previously rejected. He starts to adopt the traits of a ruthless businessman, employing tactics and a hard-nosed mindset that clash with his earlier ideals and with the life he envisioned with Geeta.
Geeta is stunned and troubled by Avinash’s transformation. The person she fell in love with seems to be drifting away, and she ultimately decides that leaving him is the only path to preserve her own integrity and sense of self. In the wake of this fracture, Avinash confronts the consequences of his choices. He admits his mistakes, quits the publishing job that had drawn him into a morally compromising routine, and aims to realign himself with a more principled path by joining the publishing company of his former professor, Professor Chaudhary, A.K. Hangal. This move signals a back-and-forth journey between ambition and accountability, as he seeks to reclaim the values that first drew him to writing, while navigating the complexities of love, loyalty, and the economic pressures that helped push him toward a different course.
